In case of diabetes, even the smallest scratch on any part of the skin will invite serious infections and patient will take a great amount of time and cost to recover. The reasons that contribute to normal bruising and tearing of skin are as under:-

Bruise guards

(a)    Aging capillaries:  With the passage of time the tissues supporting the blood vessels weaken, and capillary walls become more fragile and prone to rupture.

(b)   Thinning skin: With age, the skin becomes thinner and loses some of the protective fatty layer that helps cushion blood vessels from injury. Excessive exposure to the sun accelerates this process.

(c)    Blood-thinning drugs:  Some drugs such as Aspirin and Warfarin (Coumadin) or medications such as Plavix reduce the blood's ability to clot. The result of this is bleeding from capillary damage  this allows blood to leak out and can cause a bruise.

In order to save the body from the complications which may arise from the bruising and tearing of skin, doctors and medical experts have prescribed the use of arm protectors for thin skin.
